Interview with Joyce Shimba
What is the most beautiful thing about being a young mother?
The most beautiful thing about being a young mother is that you still have energy to run around with your child. :P Just kidding. I have to say, as a young mother I get to discover and learn many things from other older mothers, as well as from just growing together with my son.
The most challenging thing for me is the fact that I have to put everything on hold to take care of my son first. Studies, social life, carrier... All those things have to wait. The only way I overcame this is by the help of God; He gives me the ability to accept and enjoy every moment with my son so that I don't feel depressed or like I am missing anything.
I can definitely say Hannah, because she reminds me that my children really belong to the Lord; they will be with me for just a brief time. I'm sure Hannah cherished every minute she had with Samuel, yet she knew from the very beginning Whose he really was.
Most definitely. It taught me to rely on God for all that I need, especially the knowledge of how to love and raise my son, so I know I can go before God for anything. It helped me trust more in Him.
I have so many scriptures that encourage me, the most recent one being Psalm 144:1-2. It talks about The LORD being our Rock, Who trains our hands for war, And fingers for battle - He is our lovingkindness, fortress, high tower, deliverer, Our shield and the One in whom We can take refuge. Another is Psalm 34:7-10: “The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.”
I ask that God will continue to strengthen me everyday, so that even when physically I might be tired, I can still do all things with joy and as unto The Lord.
